FAQ

Our program is a little different. We tried to cover our most frequently asked questions, but if you don't see what you're looking for please don't hesitate to contact us.

Where are you located?

We are located in Evansville, Indiana! Participants are welcome from wherever, as long as you can make it to the events!

How do I sign up?

It's easy! Just fill out the brief questionaire here and we will be in contact with you shortly to arrange a meet-&-greet!

Why do we have to have a meet-&-greet?

Tertia is definitely a different kind of Support Group. We want to make sure you understand what our program is like and make sure you think it's a good fit for you!

Who can participate in Tertia?

At the moment Tertia is only available to female-identifying people who are survivors of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. For the safety of the group, you must no longer be in crisis. We would LOVE to open the group up to other genders or to help with other life complications, but due to limited funding we have to narrow it down (for now). Hopefully in the future we will have programs for many different types of people & problems!

What does that mean, to be 'no longer in crisis'?

It means that you must be separated from the situation/abuser and have your basic needs met such as safety, shelter, and food. Basically that means you are no longer in danger. We understand that situations are complicated, so we will review each on a case-by-case basis. We wish we could accept anyone at any stage, but we must keep the group's safety in mind.

I really want to join, but I'm still with/having problems with my abuser. What should I do?

We REALLY want you to join! There are several resources available in our area to help you get to safety. A great place to start is Albion Fellows Bacon Center. If you have any questions about resources you can email us here, and we will do our best to point you in a good direction.

How much will it cost to participate?

Nothing! Nada! Zilch! We want this to be a chance for you to heal and grow - NOT worry about money. A big thank you to our donors for making this possible!

Do you provide childcare?

Not at this time. We hope to be able to in the future.

Do you provide transportation?

We do have resources available to help with participation. Please just let us know if this is something you need.

How much will the program cost for me?

Nothing! Nada! Zilch! We want this to be a chance for you to heal and grow - NOT worry about money. A big thank you to our donors for making this possible!

What kind of stuff will we do?

CHALLENGES! ADVENTURES! We've got some great programs lined up! We will be going on night hikes, having wild animal encounters (have you ever pet a skunk?), taking self-defense and fitness classes, painting pottery, practicing yoga, canoeing, and more! As our funding increases, we will add more activities, like rock climbing and camping!

How does each session work?

Each session is 3 months long, with 6 events each (plus an orientation). Each session is designed to include 12 participants and 2 leaders.

What if the current session is full? Can I participate more than once?

Each session will be first-come-first-serve, and our waitlist will be in the order applications are received. Applicants are welcome to participate in more than one session as long as there is space available!

So this is basically just therapy, right?

No! Tertia is NOT meant to substitute for therapy or counseling. This is a supplemental program led by other survivors. This is NOT led by a licensed therapist or social worker! Tertia is a peer-led support group.

Are you affiliated with any church or religion?

Nope! Tertia is not affiliated with any church or religion. We will not be participating in any kind of religious ceremonies or practices during group activities. We also don't discriminate against those who are. So whatever you are, you're welcome here!

Do I have to be sober to participate?

For safety reasons, we require participants to be sober during our activities. We do not require sobriety outside of Tertia events.

Do I have to come to all the activities in a session?

We would like you to come to as many as you can! If it's something you are not comfortable doing, you can always be there as moral support for other participants. And who knows, maybe you'll end up enjoying something unexpectedly!
